Trait of the Month

January – Respect

People are not things, and everyone has a right to be treated with respect.  You can show respect to others by being tolerant and accepting differences.  You show respect to someone when you use good manners, like saying “please and thank you” and don’t use bad language.  Being considerate of others’ feelings is another way of showing respect.  How will you show respect in the month of January?

Grades K-3

  • Respect means acting nicely and talking nicely to everyone.
  • The Golden Rule says “Treat others the way you want to be treated.”
  • Don’t hit or hurt anyone when you are angry.
  • Don’t tease others who are different than you.
  • Listen attentively when someone is talking (e.g., pay attention, make eye contact)
  • Use “please” when asking for something

Grades 4-6

  • We don’t have to like everybody, but we should treat everyone with respect, regardless of who they are and what they have done.  We have a responsibility to be the best we can be in all situations, even when dealing with unpleasant people.
  • The Golden Rule says “Treat others the way you want to be treated.”
  • Accept individual differences and beliefs without prejudice.
  • Listen attentively when someone is talking (e.g., pay attention, make eye contact)

Mr. Kepner Keeps His Promise...

Mr. Kepner promised the school last year that if we met our goal of an 800 API that he would shave all his hair. He happily kept his promise to our Weller Mustangs at a special assembly to celebrate our API of 864! Mr. Kepner had three messages to share on this special day:

1) Set a goal

2) Work for that goal

3) Keep your promise
